Vitra Home

Vitra AG is a traditional company with headquarters in Switzerland and production facilities in Weil am Rhein (Germany), where the famous Vitra Campus is located, which has attracted visitors from all over the world since the 1990s. The buildings on the campus, the Vitra Design Museum by Frank O. Gehry and the fire station by Zaha Hadid, are also considered beacons of modern architecture. The Vitra company specialises in modern and classic home furniture, among other things. The Home Collection includes office chairs, chairs, stools, tables, shelves, cupboards, clocks, lamps and accessories by internationally renowned designers such as Verner Panton and Charles and Ray Eames. The latter made a particular contribution to the success of Vitra, as founder Willi Fehlbaum (*1914) discovered the designer couple Eames on a trip to the USA and acquired the distribution licenses for Germany from the manufacturer Herman Miller in 1953. The contract included not only the Eames' designs, but also those of George Nelson, who worked as Design Director at Herman Miller between 1946 and 1972. Charles and Ray Eames furniture has been one of Vitra's most successful products for decades. Bequests and exhibits by designers such as Eames and Panton can be found on the Vitra Campus and in the Vitra Museum in Weil am Rhein. Warren is said to have designed the first model in the USA in 1849, which was already on four castors and had a movable backrest.
