Vitra Eames Aluminium Chairs
The Eames Chairs from the Aluminium Group
History and origin
Along with the Eames Plastic Chair, the Vitra Eames Aluminium Chairs are probably among the furniture designs that have achieved the greatest significance in the past 20th century. The first models by the designer couple Charles and Ray Eames date from 1958 and were developed for the house of a private customer in the USA.

Vitra
With the concept of stretching the seat cover and thus the seat for the chair freely swinging over an aluminium frame, Charles Eames and his wife abandoned the construction of the fixed seat or shell and once again set a milestone in the development and design of seating furniture: the seat cover stretched in this way adapts to the body and offers a high level of seating comfort - without any additional upholstery.
One year after the Alu Chairs were first distributed by Herman Miller, Vitra introduced the Aluminium Group to the European market.
The eye catcher in every room
The chair with its timeless design fits easily into any home. The Aluminium Group's wide range of models, materials and colours means that the chair can be tailored precisely to your own needs and space. Without question, every Alu chair attracts attention. Outside the home the Alu Chairs have established themselves as office chairs and conference chairs in a class of their own.
Guaranteed quality
The workmanship and material of the original are of exceptional quality. For this reason, the manufacturer offers a 30-year guarantee on the Aluminium Group's specimens.
Why a chair made of aluminum?
The Eames aluminum series evolved from the idea of using the chairs outdoors, so the designer couple chose insensitive aluminum, which also brings lightness and is freely malleable. Charles and Ray Eames stretched textile material between the curved side rails. Aluminum is a durable and recyclable material that uses 94 percent less energy when recycled - which is why Vitra, the manufacturer, uses mostly used aluminum. The two designers developed the Vitra Eames Aluminium Group in the 1950s. The Vitra Soft Pad Chair Group followed in the late 1960s. The production of a chair requires six trained employees and various assembly stations; visitors can personally witness the unfinishing process at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. Vitra considers the Eames Aluminum Chairs to be a complete design concept between industrial production and craftsmanship in a quality for which the Vitra company provides a 30-year warranty if the chair was purchased from a certified dealer such as pro office. From the date of purchase, the Alu Chairs should be registered within three months.
Vitra Eames Aluminium Group: fabric or leather, chrome-plated or polished?
The Aluminium Chair is considered a significant furniture design. The product family Eames Aluminium Group was created in 1954, when the manufacturer J. Irwin Miller could not find suitable furniture for his terrace. The couple Charles & Ray Eames stepped in and developed the first aluminum chairs for the interior designer friend Alexander Girard, which were produced in the USA by the manufacturer Herman Miller. Vitra brought the chairs to Europe and Switzerland in 1959 and has been producing aluminum chairs of the highest quality ever since. In the Aluminum Group you will find versions that are chrome plated, polished or black powder coated. Also among the fabrics (e.g. Hopsak) and leather there is a diverse selection, so that for every environment and taste there is a beautiful Alu Chair to choose from. For example a mesh fabric (EA 107 - EA 108) for the expression of lightness or versions in leather as a status symbol. In the pro office store you will find the aluminum chairs EA 101, 103 and 104, which are also suitable as dining chairs, the variants EA 105, 107 and 108, which are designed for meeting rooms and the models EA 117 and 119, the classic office chairs of the product family.
