Company history
Already during the founding of the company Kartell furniture in 1949, the chemist Giulio Castelli insisted on innovation and progress. He decided to use plastic for a modern, futuristic material. Actually, the interest of the company founder of Kartell was initially not at all with furniture and accessories. On the contrary, he wanted to produce plastic labware from Kartell. The fact that Kartell's greatest creative power flows into the production of beautiful furniture and household items can, however, be described as luck.
Furniture as a second stand
Early on Kartell created a second stand with the production of furniture. Recognizing the potential of the material, Castelli used from the outset to reputable designers in order to design Kartell furniture as shapely as it is effective. The results showed him right and numerous design prizes and an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York confirmed that Kartell furniture established itself in form and design on the worldwide market.
Light and accessorie
Today, Kartell not only produces furniture, but also lamps and a lot of utensils for household use. All of this has one thing in common, the material. This is constantly being further developed and tested in Kartell's own laboratories and trials, in order to be able to derive both new properties and to ensure a high degree of quality.
Design
Continuous further development at Kartell also includes the fact that one still relies on renowned designers, but also on new talents. In this way one tries to keep the creative process running and to pick up new impulses. As a result, Kartell furniture is always developed according to the demands of the time.
Nevertheless, Kartell furniture is intended to serve a purpose and that is the focus. The furniture piece or even the household item is a total art work. The design, the color and the overall appearance of the design must always be in harmony with the practical use, functionality and comfort.
Luxurious material
Kartell succeeds in changing the raw material plastic so that it is not cheap or even inferior, but noble and high-quality. The fact that this is not just the case seems to open up to the viewer very quickly in a variety of ways. Kartell furniture is luxurious. The good quality of material and workmanship sets high standards in comfort and design.
