Anna Castelli Ferrieri

Anna Castelli Ferrieri (1920-2006) studied architecture with Franco Albini in Milan at the Polytechnic. She was co-editor of the Milan architectural magazine Casabella-Costruzioni and correspondent for the London magazine Architectural Design. In 1946, she founded her own architectural practice in Milan and built homes, churches, public buildings, and industrial buildings, including the headquarters of her own company Kartell and the buildings of the car manufacturer Alfa Romeo. In 1949, she founded Kartell with her husband Giulio Castelli. Castelli was a chemist by profession. With their joint know-how, Kartell became a world leader in the production of furniture made of plastic. Ferrieri gained worldwide fame with the Componibili modular system. She received the award for designers, the Compasso d'Oro, her works can be seen in the exhibitions of the Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Georges-Pompidou.
