The timeless classic - The PH 5 luminaire

The history of Louis Poulsen
The history of Louis Poulsen dates back to 1874, when the company was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark. It began as a small blacksmith's shop specialising in decorative arts. But the breakthrough came in 1924 with the groundbreaking Paris lamp by Poul Henningsen. This lamp, also known as the PH 5 lamp series, was one of the first of its kind and set new standards for glare-free light.
Over the years, Louis Poulsen has created other design classics, including the iconic AJ lamp by Arne Jacobsen. This luminaire, which was initially designed especially for the SAS Royal Hotel, is characterised by directional and glare-free light and is still a timeless design piece today.
Another well-known product is the Panthella lamp by Verner Panton. This monochrome pendant lamp, which was created in close collaboration with the Danish designer, creates an atmospheric ambience and creates pleasant glare-free lighting.
Louis Poulsen has collaborated with many renowned designers over the years, including Oki Sato, Øivind Slaatto and Christian Flindt. The brand stands for high-quality, timeless designs and the best light. With an impressive range of lights, Louis Poulsen has established itself as one of the best-known names in the lighting industry.
Lighting techniques by Louis Poulsen
Louis Poulsen is known for their innovative lighting techniques that capture the unique Scandinavian light in their lamps.
One of the techniques they use is targeted light control to create glare-free light. This is achieved by special reflectors and diffusers that gently diffuse the light and protect the eye from direct glare.
Another important aspect is the design of the light itself. Louis Poulsen uses clever shapes and materials to form and direct the light. This shaping makes it possible to disperse the light in a harmonious and aesthetic way, creating a pleasant atmosphere and a cosy ambience.
Louis Poulsen has released many popular lamp collections over the years. Among the most famous are the PH lamps by Poul Henningsen, which subtly diffuse the light with their multi-layered shades.
With their unique lighting techniques, the design of the light and their popular lamp collections, Louis Poulsen has established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of high-quality luminaires.
