A.I. is the first design chair designed by artificial intelligence. The know-how of the company Kartell, the creative thinking of Philippe Starck and the artificial intelligence were combined to a chair model. The A.I. is based on an algorithm that respects the mission of the company and the designer. The criteria of structural strength and solidity must be respected and the quality and aesthetic standards of the product design must be met. The requirement was fulfilled and the result is an injection moulded product of high aesthetic quality, corresponding to the core values of Kartell.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is when a computer system uses data and algorithms to solve a problem that would usually be transmitted to a human being.

How was the A.I. used for the development of Kartell?

Design projects are a complex practice that requires a balance between creativity and know-how. In such a process a lot of time is invested in prototyping. Structural strength and manufacturability must be verified by an engineer. The A.I. solves the different aspects simultaneously and offers the designer several dozen practicable options. Kartell shortens and expands the design process to arrive at the optimal design solution.

Designer vs. Artificial Intelligence. Is the designer's input still important?

The creativity and the know-how are needed and underlined with A.I. Design. The design of Artificial Intelligence shifts the focus of the process to understanding the problem for which it is designed. The more accurately the real scenario of the construction problem can be communicated, the better the solutions the system returns. Each solution must be interpreted by the designer. At certain times, the returned solutions also require more information and further iterations; this interpretative and recursive process allows designers to bring the solution space and their designs to a larger and unknown level of form and function.

The material is 100% recycled and comes from production waste. This is pure supply material without contamination by other materials.
