Timeless - The Thonet chair S64
The design of the S32 and S64 chairs is one of the most popular steel tube classics. Here a constructive form and the great aesthetic connection of wood, steel pipe and pipe braid meet. The chair has its origins in the late 1920s, at a time when Marcel Breuer designed grand interiors and designed countless furniture. The production started in 1930. Clarity and aesthetic reduction allow the use in conference rooms, waiting areas, restaurants, bars and private rooms.
The frame is chromed, but also available in colored varnishes. The wooden parts are stained (beech). The covering is made of tubular braid in combination with a stable and transparent plastic backing. Many other combinations with fabrics, leather and the Pure Materials variant are available. Please contact us, we will gladly configure the desired chair with the desired design. Hotline: 05261 9461-70 | Mon - Fri 8 am - 6 pm
Marcel Breuer was born in 1902 in Hungary. From 1920 to 1924 he studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar. From 1925 he took the direction of the carpentry workshop of the Bauhaus. Breuer is a pioneer in the field of steel tube furniture and experimented with designs of these furniture types in the 1920s and designed pioneering models. The development of the S32 / S64 fell into the era in which Breuer worked as an interior architect in Berlin. In the early 1930s, the designer traveled to the design of aluminum furniture. In the mid-1930s he worked as an architect in London. He received a professorship at Harvard University in Cambridge and opened an office for architecture together with Walter Gropius. From 1946, numerous designs followed for Europe and the USA. The outstanding architect and designer died in 1981 in New York.
Since 1819, the company has been producing furniture of the highest quality, making it one of the world's oldest family-run furniture manufacturers. From deep roots in his company tradition, Thonet always dares new things. Outstanding design and breakthrough technologies have made the company known worldwide. The design history includes milestones of the furniture industry, such as the coffee house chair no. 14 and the world famous steel tube furniture.
Thonet's commitment to the balance between growth and profit orientation, responsible action and the protection of the environment is always present in the production of high-quality furniture. The manufacturer is socially prudent, sustainable and holistic. Longevity is one of the most important features of the furniture. The environment is not affected either during production or disposal. For the development of new concepts, the ability to recycle the required materials is carefully examined. Only after this and the examination for sustainability and environmental friendliness, new concepts are taken over into the manufacturer's portfolio. The company invests in solvent recycling plants and draws electricity exclusively from sustainable ecological sources of energy to reduce the company's ecological footprint. An impressive example of longevity and sustainability is the subsequent delivery of the S43 for the National Library in Leipzig: after more than 70 years. The seating has been there since 1933
