The extensive Vitra Home Collection
Contemporary design meets designs from past decades.
Your home can be anything: a retreat, an open space for the whole world, large or small. There is no perfect size for a home and no single right style.
In the comprehensive Home Collection you will find the right piece – the one that suits your setting, whatever that looks like. Furniture for living, dining, working and outdoor areas. For decoration, the manufacturer's portfolio offers numerous accessories.
Vitra Home
Vitra AG is a long-established company with its headquarters in Switzerland and production facilities in Weil am Rhein, home to the Vitra Campus, which has attracted visitors from around the world since the 1990s. The buildings on the campus – the Vitra Design Museum by Frank O. Gehry and the Fire Station by Zaha Hadid – are regarded as significant examples of modern architecture. The Vitra collection can also be viewed there: classic furniture and office furniture by well-known designers.
Vitra Home furniture
Vitra specialises, among other things, in contemporary and classic furniture for the home. The Home Collection includes chairs, stools, tables, shelving, cabinets, clocks, lighting and accessories by internationally known designers such as Verner Panton and Charles and Ray Eames. The latter contributed particularly to Vitra's success: founder Willi Fehlbaum discovered the designer couple on a trip to the USA in 1953 and acquired the distribution licences from Herman Miller. The agreement covered not only the Eames designs but also those of George Nelson, who was design director at Herman Miller from 1946 to 1972. The furniture by Charles and Ray Eames has been among Vitra's most successful products for decades. Estates and exhibits by designers such as Eames and Panton can be seen on the Vitra Campus and in the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. At the pro office shop you will find these classics – Plastic Chairs, Aluminium Chairs, Lounge Chairs – as well as contemporary office chairs by Alberto Meda, Antonio Citterio, Mario Bellini & Claudio Bellini and Konstantin Grcic.
Vitra for the home
Choose Vitra products for your home at the pro office shop; the extensive range allows an individual combination. Classic and contemporary pieces complement one another well. The Eames Plastic Chair is a versatile companion in the open-plan office or the home office. Shelving such as the Vitra Eames Storage Unit fits into many settings. The Vitra Lounge Chair invites you to take a break. The HAL Tube shell chair by Jasper Morrison offers freedom of movement thanks to its flexible plastic, is stackable and versatile; with a powder-coated base (optional) it can also be used on the terrace or in the garden. The Vitra LTR Table is design pared back to essentials. Clocks from the Vitra Clock series, the Vitra Wooden Dolls by Alexander Girard and the Vitra miniatures are accessories for your home. These are just a few examples from the selection at the pro office shop.
Ergonomics at Vitra
There are various accounts of how the ergonomic office chair developed. Thomas E. Warren is said to have designed an early model in the USA around 1849, which already ran on castors and had a movable backrest. In the decades that followed, new
