While the first aluminium chairs were created at the end of the 1950s, the designers Charles and Ray Eames followed suit ten years later. After the successful Aluminium Group, the couple developed the design of the Soft Pad Group chair family in 1969. Both products are produced by manufacturer Vitra - with a 30-year guarantee, as the chairs are extremely durable. As is usual in a family, they resemble each other: in the case of these Eames Chairs, the furniture is similar in construction. In the Soft Pad Group, however, lush upholstery with a leather cover is used, which provides a pleasant sitting comfort. In contrast to the Aluminium Group, however, there are no covers made of fabric or mesh for this attractive chair, only the back is covered with the robust flat weave Plano.
