The design of the S 35 Thonet chairs

The designer Marcel Breuer succeeded in constructing a free-swinging armchair from tubular steel in a continuous line. In addition to the frame, the concept also included the armrests, which spring independently of the seat. The vibrations of the seat frame are balanced by the armrests, which are also springy. The S 35 club chair by manufacturer Thonet was shown by the Deutscher Werkbund at the "Salon des Artistes Décorateurs" in Paris in 1930 as a prototype for the tasteful furnishing of apartments.
