Vitra Ceramic Containers

Designer Alexander Girard was inspired by folk art and developed accessories, fabrics and interiors for living and living that had a playful character or a social statement - Love and International Love. In 1952 Girard developed the models of Vitra Ceramic Containers, which are still kept in the Girard Archive of the Vitra Design Museum. The artist created the three wooden models by hand on the lathe, they are reminiscent of classic apothecary jars or chess pieces. The original wooden models are in the Vitra Design Museum archive. The Ceramic Containers, cast in ceramic, were developed by the manufacturer Vitra in collaboration with the Girard family from the artist's lavish color fund. The hand-dyed vessels are suitable for storing loose change, keys and other small items. The natural material gives Ceramic Containers a sophisticated flair, making them a staple on many a wish list.

Alexander Girard

Alexander Hayden Girard (1907-1993) was internationally active as a designer, art collector and architect and had a similar influence on the post-war period as Charles & Ray Eames. The main focus of his activity was textile design, but he also designed other items such as furniture, including high-quality tables made of walnut wood or the Flower Table, which you can also find in the pro office store. From 1924 to 1929 Girard studied architecture in London, from 1930 to 1931 in Rome and from 1932 to 1935 in New York, so Girard was allowed to settle as an independent architect in the USA, where he was inspired by South American folk art.
