"Vitra Standard SP Chair"
Vitra Standard SP: Industrial design from the 1950s
The Vitra Standard SP (Siège en plastique) chair is based on the same static considerations as the other chairs by Jean Prouvé - the stronger rear legs with the triangular, flat legs made of sheet steel with a light structure hold the weight, while thin tubular steel was used for the front legs of the chairs. The seat and backrest are made of ASA plastic. ASA plastic is high quality and scratch resistant, the famous first Panton chair was made of this material. The Standard SP was produced by Vitra from 1950 onwards. The related chair, the Chais Tout Bois, had to be made from natural materials because during the war there was only wood, but no screws in France. You can see the relationship between the two chairs. Even more similar is the Vitra Standard, with a wooden seat and back.

The designer and constructor Jean Prouvé
Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) called himself a designer. Having completed his training as a blacksmith, he worked as an architect and also designed furniture according to the principles of architecture. Prouvé was active in the Résistance, acquired several patents and managed companies with many employees. For this he received the award "Knight of the Legion of Honour" in his home country France in 1950.
