Vitra Standard Chair

Product information

"Vitra Standard Chair"

The Vitra Standard - a chair as masterpiece

Anything but standard is the beautiful chair by Jean Prouvé with a design from 1934. Static experiences led the designer to reinforce the legs of the chairs in the rear area, where the load is greatest. The same design underlies the Vitra Compas Direction and the upholstered Vitra Fauteuil Direction. Flat, triangular legs made of sheet steel reinforce the back of the chair, while thin tubular steel is used for the front legs. The Standard is available with a seat and backrest made of beautiful wood in oak (light or dark) and a base in the colours black, Japanese red or ecru.

Matching the Standard: The Vitra Compas Direction
The Vitra Compas Direction table from 1953 by Jean Prouvé was also designed according to the principles of construction. The legs made of metal in the shape of a circle depict the modern industrial style with a solid wood top. The timelessly beautiful desk fits both the home office and the modern office. You can also configure the desks individually in the pro office shop.

The designer Jean Prouvé

Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) worked as an architect and designed furniture according to architectural principles. Another famous chair dates from 1941, when the designer had to make do without screws due to the war, the Chais Tout Bois - the chair made entirely of wood. Since Prouvé had not studied, he gave himself the name "Constructor". He was internationally recognised and was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour in France in 1950.
