Elegant and unconventional - The Vitra DAL
Since the beginning of 2024, the seat shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs have been made from a special material: recycled post-consumer plastic. The source of this recycled material is new - it comes from the German household recycling collection "Gelber Sack", mainly from used packaging. It reduces climate-damaging emissions compared to conventional plastic and uses significantly less energy. Another characteristic aspect of the new seat shells are the delicate speckles, especially in the lighter colors, which arise due to the composition of the recycled material.
With this design Charles and Ray Eames have surely designed one of the most unconventional and elegant undercarriages of their career. In 1961 the legendary designer couple developed this model and added it to the DAL, the Dining Height Armchair La Fonda Base, with the famous seat shell. The origin of the name comes from the New York restaurant Fonda del Sol. Alexander Girard was responsible for its furnishing and the Eames designed the wonderful underframe for this purpose.
First-class design - now and then
Four parallel strands lead into the stable four-star base and form the shiny base. In combination with the timeless appearance of the seat shell, the result is a chair that is still convincing today with its topicality and style. There are no limits to the possible applications. The Vitra DAL shines in furnishing situations as well as in work environments and, as in 1961, cuts a first-class figure in restaurants and bistros.
