Since the beginning of 2024, the seat shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs have been made from a special material: recycled post-consumer plastic. The source of this recycled material is new - it comes from the German household recycling collection "Gelber Sack", mainly from used packaging. It reduces climate-damaging emissions compared to conventional plastic and uses significantly less energy. Another characteristic aspect of the new seat shells are the delicate speckles, especially in the lighter colors, which arise due to the composition of the recycled material.

Vitra expands the Eames Plastic Chair portfolio with the beautiful Eames Plastic Chair LAR. Charles and Ray Eames conceived the multifunctional chairs, whose seat shells can be combined with a wide variety of base frames. The designer couple seems to have particularly liked the LAR combination. Historical pictures of the Eames House show the timeless Plastic Chair in several places.

The compact LAR convinces in every facility

Thanks to their low weight, the Eames Plastic Chairs can be placed in the furniture where it pleases according to your own taste. The Vitra LAR is no exception to this rule and can be found in almost any place. With its powder-coated base and without upholstery, the LAR can also be used outdoors. The special seat height of 25.5 cm lends the LAR lounge character and inspires with an aesthetics that has lost nothing of its topicality over decades. The compact Vitra LAR is also a good choice for small rooms and contributes to a pleasant atmosphere.

Discover the great variety of colours and upholstery

Like all Eames Plastic Chairs, the Eames LAR shines with a large selection of colours for the seat shell and fabric cover. In the version with seat cushion or as full upholstery there are countless combination possibilities that leave nothing to be desired and make the chair optically configurable for almost every furnishing situation.

As a fully upholstered chair, the Vitra LAR offers the characteristics of a small armchair, with lots of comfort and an outstanding appearance. The base frame offers high stability with minimal use of materials. Shortly after its market launch, the underframe was affectionately referred to as "Cat's Cradle", which means "thread play".
