"Vitra LAR Fiberglass chair"
Design: Charles & Ray Eames, 1950
Eames Fibreglass Chair
They are among the most important designs in design history: the shell chair designs by Charles and Ray Eames. The historic designs were first presented to the public in 1948, as part of the Low Cost Furniture Design Competition of the Museum of Modern Art. Two years later, the shell chairs went into production, marking the point at which plastic chairs were first produced in series. The rest is history, and the idea of the multifunctional chair went around the world. The revolutionary idea of combining a shell with different bases is still successful today. The design of the Lounge Height Armchair Rod Base (LAR) has a special significance. Historical pictures show that Charles Eames particularly liked to use the LAR in his own home in Pacific Palisades, both indoors and outdoors.
