Product information

"Vitra DKR Wire Chair"

Design: Charles and Ray Eames, 1950

The Vitra Wire Chair DKR

Being on the ball: The Wire Chair DKR by Charles & Ray Eames dates back to 1951 and was also developed in the early 1950s to save resources. The chair takes its name from its function. The variant with a "D", means "Dining Hight" for dining height. The seat shell made of wire frame is marked "K" for "K-Wire", while the iron wire frame is abbreviated with "R" for Rod Iron Base. The DKR is supported by the legendary Eiffel Tower base, which is also used in some Eames Plastic Chairs, making the chairs unmistakable.

Variations of the DKR Chairs

The seat shell consists of welded steel wire, powder coated black or chrome-plated. The powder-coated version is also suitable for outdoor use on the terrace or in the garden. For indoor use, seat cushions or back cushions made of fabric or leather are also available, which can be easily removed if required. The design of the DKR Chairs is extremely attractive with or without upholstery. The covers for this furniture are available in many beautiful colors.

The designers Charles & Ray Eames

In the 1950s, the couple Charles and Ray Eames experimented with unusual materials to produce chairs in series. Their experiments already took into account the ergonomics of the human body. Willi Fehlbaum discovered the furniture in the USA and acquired the licenses from manufacturer Herman Miller for the European market; a success story, as many of Charles & Ray Eames' furniture became design icons and brands. In the pro office store you can discover more articles and accessories by the two designers.

On request, you can also order the base frame in white. Please contact us!
