Design: Jean Prouvé
Stool or side table? The Vitra Tabouret Solvay
The Vitra Tabouret Solvay bears the signature of Jean Prouvé, who did not call himself a designer but a constructor. The Tabouret Solvay is made of solid solid wood and can be used as a stool or as a stylish side table for an armchair or sofa thanks to its flat top. The height is 45 centimeters. The furniture is made of solid natural oak, oiled or smoked; the article is also available in American walnut. A soft, damp cloth is sufficient for cleaning the wooden surfaces. In the pro office store you will find other products by Jean Prouvé with the typical design, the Chair Fauteuil Direction or the Table Compas Direction and other furniture by Vitra.
Jean Prouvé (1900-1983)
With the robust charm of Prouvé's designs, the "Industrial Chic" began in urban design. Jean Prouvé opened his first workshop in 1924, where he produced robust furniture made of steel and wood with an aesthetic all of his own, applying the laws of statics as with large building constructions. Prouvé made the industrial character of furniture visible and used conical elements, where the forms usually tapered in the 1950s. His furniture appears more dynamic than elegant. In 1950 Prouvé was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor; a place in the history of architecture and design is assured to the self-taught man.
