"Stool or low table Cork Family"
Design: Jasper Morrison, 2004
Vitra stool coffee table Cork
The products from the Cork Family can be used as a stool, but also as a side table. This item offers two functions in one. At the same time, the three stable and robust variants have another advantage: the substance. Because cork is enormously tough, compared to other materials very light and offers a velvety, pleasant feel. The stool from the Cork Family was designed by designer Morrison for Vitra. The model is guaranteed never to go out of fashion. The Briton Jasper Morrison pursues as a designer the simple, just "super normal". His furniture is practical, reduced in design and unobtrusive.
Cork - a wonder of nature
The cork oak is native to the Mediterranean region and has a thicker bark than other trees. Cork consists of water-resistant cells, has little weight, is rot-resistant and fireproof. Therefore, the material is not only suitable for the proverbial cork of the wine bottle, but also for furniture construction or as flooring. The cork oak is harvested only when it is more than 25 years old. About 10 years after harvesting, bark has recovered and the tree can be peeled again. A cork oak can live for a good two hundred years.
Stool or coffee table: Three small friends, robustly built, stable, individual in character and lovable in appearance, that's the Cork Family. As side-tables or as stools, the three different brothers benefit from the advantageous properties of the natural material: cork. It is comparatively light, enormously tough and has a pleasant soft feel.
