Vitra Lampe de Bureau – the light for the office and beyond
The Lampe de Bureau lives up to its name. The small table lamp can find its place not only in the office but also in the home office. The design was created in 1930 by Jean Prouvé to bring light into the functional student rooms of the Cité Universitaire in Nancy. The lamps are folded from sheet steel and cast a beam of light onto the desk surface. The powder-coated sheet steel is available in three colours – red (Japanese Red), mint and deep black – each including the bulb; the power cable is fabric-covered. At 2700 Kelvin, the light colour is a pleasant warm white.
The designer Jean Prouvé (1900–1983)
Jean Prouvé was arguably one of the first industrial designers. Without formal training as an architect, he opened his own workshop in 1924, where he produced small accessories, furniture and living units in steel and wood. He always applied the laws of statics to small parts just as rigorously as to large structures. Prouvé displayed the industrial character of his furniture, which appears dynamic rather than elegant. In 1950 he was appointed Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur. His designs hold a firm place in design history. The manufacturer Vitra brings many products by the self-declared constructeur to market – armchairs, chairs and tables, which you will also find at the pro office shop.
