Artemide Tizio

The reading lamp or table lamp Tizio in black is a true classic from Artemide, the Italian lighting design company. The Artemide Tizio is a real type and an expression of perfect balance. The cantilevered arm of the desk lamp is held in suspension by a counterweight. The visual impression of balance balances the geometric rigor. Richard Sapper

Sapper (1932-2015) began his design career at Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart before moving to Milan in 1958 to work with architect Gio Ponti. In early 1960, Sapper moved to Marco Zanuso to jointly pursue sculptural minimalism. From 1959 he maintained his own studio and received his first Compasso d'Oro for his Static table clock. The Tizio lamp by Artemide became iconic and is still one of the best-selling lamps. It is part of the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2012, Sapper received the Cross of Merit from the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck, followed in 2014 by the Compasso d'Oro for his life's work.
