A beautiful frame made of chrome, seat and back in black stained beech and natural wicker - this is the noble version of the modern bar stool by designer Marcel Breuer. In the 1920-ies, the Bauhaus created the first tubular steel furniture and cantilever chairs, which have become real classics. The furniture is still produced today by the Thonet company, which is also known for the Viennese coffeehouse chairs. Thonet products captivate with their design and elegant combination of tubular steel with nature, wickerwork and wood. The designer Marcel Breuer

Marcel Lajos Breuer was born in 1902 in Austria-Hungary and is considered, together with Mart Stam and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the inventor of furniture with tubular steel. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter, Breuer worked at the Bauhaus and later went into business for himself. In 1933 he fled to the USA, where he worked as an architect and died in 1981.

The Thonet Company

The success story of the Thonet company began in 1819 with the carpenter Michael Thonet, who experimented with bentwood in Boppard on the Rhine until the Austrian state chancellor Clemens von Metternich took notice of him and invited him to Vienna. In 1853, he renamed the start-up company Gebrüder Thonet. Since 2011, the family business has been run by Peter Thonet.
