The Thonet company has existed for two centuries and looks back on a successful history. The company was founded by Michael Thonet in 1819 and is still managed by the Thonet family today. Due to the possibilities of industrialisation, Thonet was able to develop the coffee house chair No. 14, which is made of wood bent under steam (bentwood) and can be dismantled into individual parts. Sales of these chairs with an annual production of 250,000 pieces and estimated 50 million sales by 1930 alone ensured the company's success. At the beginning of the 20th century, Thonet also employed artists and designers, including Marcel Breuer, who had previously worked for the Bauhaus Dessau, where he developed the tubular steel furniture. These experiments resulted in the B 9 table and the first cantilever chair in black, the S 33 model, in 1925. The focus is on minimalism with durable and exchangeable individual parts. Thonet chairs and tables are true design classics! Legend has it that a Thonet chair fell out of the Eiffel Tower undamaged...
