THONET Outdoor Dining

Selected icons from the Bauhaus era have been reissued in weatherproof versions, making them suitable for the garden and terrace as well. These pieces naturally look just as good in a conservatory, living room or dining room. The range includes the S 40 cantilever chair, the S 40 F chair with armrests, the S 1040 table, the S 35 N armchair with its matching S 35 NH footstool and the B 9 nesting table set. While the S 40 chairs and the S 1040 table are designed for dining, the S 35 N armchair invites you to relax – best of all with the matching footstool. The B 9 side tables offer space for glasses and other items.

Designs by Mart Stam

The garden chairs correspond to the S 40 classic, for which Mart Stam was granted the artistic copyright. The model was first offered in the Thonet catalogue in 1935. The chair is now also available in a weather-resistant version; according to the manufacturer, the wood used is FSC®-certified. The S 1040 table was developed to match the cantilever chairs by the Thonet Design Team in 1999.

As with the S 40 garden chair, the wood of the tables is solid iroko, which when oiled resembles teak. The frames are made of stainless steel. The S 1040 was designed in 1999 by the Thonet Design Team and takes its cue from Mart Stam's formal language.

Lounging with Marcel Breuer

The S 35 tubular steel armchair of 1929 was reissued in a weatherproof version in 2015. Through the lightness of its furniture, the Bauhaus era brought a modern, flexible way of living to the fore. With its continuous line, Breuer achieved a double springing effect in the S 35 between the seat and back frame and the armrests. The matching S 35 NH footstool is available to go with it. The four-piece B 9 nesting table set came out of Breuer's experiments with tubular steel. The small tables can be used in many ways – as a side table or a surface for other items. Because they nest together, the set saves space.
