Thonet chairs have been produced for over 180 years according to the same fundamental principles — with the highest material quality, precise craftsmanship and timeless design. The patented bentwood process and the tubular steel technique of the Bauhaus era remain the foundation for many models today. Many Thonet chairs are displayed in major museums worldwide and are considered milestones in design history.
Among the most significant Thonet design classics are the café chair No. 214 (1859) — the most produced piece of furniture in history — and the Bauhaus cantilever chairs S 32 by Marcel Breuer and S 43 by Mart Stam. The MR 10 by Mies van der Rohe and the armchair 811 by Josef Hoffmann are further iconic models.
Yes. Many Thonet models are stackable — particularly from the dining and hospitality range. The classic café chair No. 214, for example, can be stacked up to 36 chairs high. Stackability is indicated on each individual product page.
