There are a variety of cabinets and types of cabinets for the office. Despite advancing digitalization, there are still plenty of paper documents that need to be stored in the office or home office. In addition to the right size for the office cabinet, components such as durability, stability and design are also important issues. Specialized cabinets are even available for certain items and documents. These can have special features such as lockable doors, special resilience or fire resistance. Which office cabinet is right for you should be well weighed and researched beforehand.

The right cabinet for your needs

Your own needs and requirements are decisive for choosing the right cabinet. The available space in the study, the office, is decisive for how large the office cabinet can be. Measure the available space well, so that you can subsequently better select and plan the height and width of the office cabinet. Office cabinets come in a variety of materials. Classic is the typical cabinet made of steel. This is durable and stable, because heavy files also need a stable cabinet. In addition to steel, there are also cabinets made of other materials such as wood. For many people, a lockable cabinet is particularly important and useful. Documents can thus be protected from being easily removed or rearranged. In the extreme case, they are also protected from theft. Particularly valuable and important documents and objects can even be stored in fireproof cabinets. For particularly small offices or workrooms, cabinets with sliding doors or rolling doors are suitable. In small offices, large doors would be difficult to open and remove documents, so alternatives like sliding doors are a very space-saving choice.

The classic types of cabinets

There are a variety of different types of cabinets for the office, which in turn fit a variety of different needs and purposes. The classic office cabinet is the typical filing cabinet. This type is mostly made of steel, and for good reason. Large filled files weigh a lot, so the corresponding cabinet must be able to withstand this load permanently. Typical filing cabinets are therefore very sturdy and built to last. Many filing cabinets are also lockable. This is often an important component, as confidential files, or other items of value can be stored safely without anyone being able to easily remove them. The background to why you should choose a lockable cabinet is not always immediately in the event of a burglary. It also keeps your own colleagues or family members, if you work from home, from putting documents away.

Another classic among the cabinets for the office are roll containers. This type of office cabinet is very space-saving and can be easily stored under, or next to the desk. In the drawers, paperwork and other items can be stored well and safely. Many roll containers are also made of steel and lockable. A rolling container is the smaller and more discreet alternative to the bulky filing cabinet. You can't store large files in them, but you can store individual folders, sheets of paper and notes, along with other utensils like pens. Containers come in a variety of materials, colors and designs. So as long as the rolling container doesn't have to be steel for a specific reason, materials like wood can also be used.

Choosing the right design

Office furniture is primarily functional, but the design does not play a minor role. If you want to feel comfortable in your office or study, you should choose furniture that is also visually pleasing. Those who do not feel comfortable at their workplace are less productive. Therefore, a coherent overall picture of the furniture is important. Classic colors for office cabinets are neutral colors such as white, gray and black. These colors always look modern and can be combined well with other colors. For small offices and study rooms, white is a good choice because it brightens up the room and looks friendly. Black and gray do well in larger offices and can be incorporated well as accents. There is nothing against a colorful office cabinet in principle, but the color should be chosen wisely. If you quickly get tired of the color, this is unfavorable in the long run.

The material of the cabinet also contributes to appearance. Many cabinets are made of steel, because it is strong, carries heavy loads and wears out very slowly. In addition, steel cabinets are also very easy to clean. Their appearance is quite controversial, because steel cabinets often look impersonal, sterile and martial. Nevertheless, there may be no getting around steel cabinets if particularly heavy and many utensils need to be stored in a sturdy cabinet. But steel is not the only option. Cabinets made of solid wood, such as oak or beech, are also durable and convey a natural atmosphere. They exude character and charm and are clearly more suitable for people who like their office to be furnished in a cozy way. In the end, the focus is not only on the needs and requirements, but also on the design.
