The partnership between Vitra and Charles and Ray Eames began in 1957 and continues today through the Eames Office, which represents the designer family. As six decades ago, 47 mainly manual steps are still required to produce the Lounge Chair today. The meticulous execution gives the Lounge Chair its status as a piece of furniture made to last for generations.
Each layer of veneer is unique. The veneer wood used for the lounge chair comes from forests that are certified according to the principles of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). These forests are managed in accordance with environmentally friendly and socially responsible criteria, both in terms of cultivation and deforestation.

Eames Special Collection 2023
In close collaboration with the Eames Office, Vitra presents the Eames Special Collection 2023, bringing together some of Charles and Ray Eames' iconic designs in a selection of new finishes, fabrics and colors inspired by the couple's original design palette. Among the pieces included are the Eames Elephant, the Eames Wool Blanket, the Plywood Mobiles, the Eames House Bird and the Organic Conference chair, designed by Charles Eames in collaboration with Eero Saarinen.
For the design of the wooden parts in this collection, Vitra uses the technique of staining, a method that Charles and Ray Eames developed and refined over the course of their careers.
