Vitra miniature of the Favela Chair

Product information

"Vitra miniature of the Favela Chair"

Vitra Miniature of the Miniature Collection of the Vitra Design Museum. The armchair Favela is one of the most striking works of the Brazilian designers Fernando and Humberto Campana. Inspiring and eponymous for this extraordinary seating was, according to the brothers, the architecture of the typical poor settlements of their home country. Similar to the most hut-like dwellings there, the favela is virtually nailed together and glued together from leftover pieces and waste material. For their symbolic chair, the Campanas use small, differently sized pieces of wood, as they occur as a blend in every carpentry masses. With the favela they prove that objects of peculiar poetry and beauty can emerge even from superficially poor, worthless materials. Incidentally, the favela explores the exciting relationship between unique and series product in a new way. Although every chair is made of the same basic material and according to the same blueprint, each item retains its individuality in detail.
