Four sizes
The elegant B9 series consists of 4 tables in different sizes. As is typical of the manufacturer, the bases are made of chrome-plated tubular steel. The tabletop is available in various top-coat or textured lacquers. The following sizes are available:
B9 a (small) – W 45 x H 45 x D 39 cm
B9 b (medium 1) – W 52 x H 50 x D 39 cm
B9 c (medium 2) – W 59 x H 55 x D 39 cm
B9 d (large) – W 66 x H 60 x D 39 cm
Development
During the Bauhaus era, Breuer experimented with tubular steel and transferred the established principles of classical wooden furniture making to the new material. The B9 side tables were among the designer's first works. The card catalogue of 1930/31 contained Thonet's comprehensive tubular steel range, including the B9 side tables. Walter Gropius specified the side tables for the Bauhaus canteen. The high quality of Thonet furniture is evident in these models too. The design is also timeless and fits into almost any room.
