"Thonet 404 wooden chair"
Stefan Dietz, 2007
The Thonet 404 is a wooden chair designed by Stefan Diez in 2007. The 404 is the descendant of the famous coffeehouse chair, which was created with the then new method of bending wood. Today, it is impossible to imagine Thonet without so-called bentwood. Diez transformed the look and manufacture of bentwood furniture with his wooden chair programme. Thonet 404 is a homage to the historical bentwood furniture. Unconventional forms combined with an individual look distinguish this chair. 404 is versatile, whether in the dining room or at the desk.
Stefan Diez
Stefan Diez was born in Freising in 1971. He completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter, went through an architecture course and studied industrial design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. Before making a name for himself as a designer, he was an assistant for Richard Sapper and Konstantin Grcic. Stefan Diez became self-employed in 2003 and opened his own design studio in Munich. There he developed exhibition designs, dinnerware, furniture and bags. Diez has been teaching as a professor since 2007.
