Thonet 210 R - the elegant bentwood classic
The Thonet 210 R is considered a masterpiece of bentwood classics: the bracket, which also forms the backrest and armrest, is bent from solid beech wood into the desired shape. Like the first Thonet model, Chair No. 214, the 210 R also consists of only six individual parts. Its organic shape makes it look beautiful and light. The Swiss architect and designer Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, known by his pen name Le Corbusier, was enthusiastic about the bentwood chair with a seat and backrest made of wickerwork and used the chairs in many buildings. Le Corbusier referred to this beech furniture as a chair that has nobility. The design comes from the company Gebrüder Thonet, who were not only manufacturers but also designers of bentwood furniture. The Thonet 210 R is the same as the 209 chair with an insert in the backrest. Meanwhile, the chair is available not only in brown or black stained, but in many appealing modern colors.

The company Thonet
The Thonet company was founded by Michael Thonet, who experimented with bentwood techniques, bent laminated wood, as early as 1830. Thonet GmbH became famous through this technique and the Viennese coffee house chair No. 14 and still exists today as a German family business. The traditional company celebrated further world successes through the production of tubular steel furniture in the 1920s and 1930s; the cantilever chairs, tables, armchairs and chairs designed by designers such as Marcel Breuer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe are now part of important design collections around the world and adorn many private rooms and offices.
