Many of the Fritz Hansen tables are classics of design history. Dining tables like the Superellipse or the Essay dining table are flagships at Fritz Hansen. High quality, stylish furniture has always been part of the company's history. Many of Fritz Hansen's designs and old classics can be found in design museums. These include the Powerhouse in Sydney or the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York. The Fritz Hansen PK61 is a beautiful side table or coffee table, which was designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1956. However, this table is just one of Fritz Hansen's many inspiring tables.

The history of the Fritz Hansen company

In 1885, Danish cabinetmaker Fritz Hansen founded the eponymous company with his son Christian Hansen. Initially, the company was dedicated to the production of wood and iron frames for upholstered furniture. In 1915, Christian Hansen introduced industrial work processes. These included steamed wood, with which the company began to mass produce. Christian Hansen in turn introduced his own sons, Søren and Fritz, to the company in 1932. The two sons modernized the company and its products. For products such as the DAN Chair, the design of Thonet and the wicker chair with tubular steel frame by architect Mogensen Lassen served as inspiration.

In the 1950s, Arne Jacobsen in particular contributed to the development of products and the fame of Fritz Hansen. It was during this time that many of the iconic Scandinavian design classics of the 20th century were created. Fritz Hansen produced Arne Jacobsen's legendary designs, including the Ant Chair from 1952, the Swan Sofa, the Egg Chair and the Ottoman. With designs by Verner Panton, Piet Hein and Bruno Mathsson, Fritz Hansen became a popular manufacturer of high-quality and beautiful Danish furniture. In 1979, the company passed from family ownership to Skandinavisk Holding, which bought Fritz Hansen.
