"Cantilever chair Thonet S 32 N - "PURE MATERIALS""
Icons with history
The designs of models S32 and S64 are icons of furniture construction with steel tube and true classics. The combination of pipe braiding, solid wood and steel pipe combine aesthetically with a chair with great recognition value. The architect and designer Marcel Breuer accepted the furniture construction with steel pipes as a new material. He designed a piece of furniture history with these models in the late 1920s. Thonet produced this series from 1930 onwards.
The intensive use of these special chair variants enhances charm and unmistakability. A used furniture gets its individuality by the owner and its type and intensity of use. Furniture becomes unmistakable individual pieces and individual pieces that adapt to their surroundings. The natural material is given a deliberate patina, which assigns each furniture its own unique story and is uniquely beautiful. In addition to this idea of pure materials models, a careful handling of nature is a core element in the processing of these high-quality natural materials.
The designer was born in 1902 in the town of Pecs in Hungary. Breuer studied for four years at the Weimar Bauhaus at the beginning of the 1920s. After the Bauhaus moved to Dessau, he was responsible for the workshop for 3 years. His designs of steel tube furniture fell into this era and are pioneering work. The Thonet S32 was designed for his Berlin time. From 1928 to 1931 he was an interior architect. This was followed by travel, which Breuer also used to design aluminum furniture. He also received a professorship at the Harvard University in Cambridge and opened an architectural office with Walter Gropius. His own studio opened in 1946 and numerous designs for Europe and the USA followed. The outstanding architect and designer died in 1981 in New York.
At the beginning of the 1920s, the company became a pioneer in the industrial production of steel tube furniture and established itself as the largest production company in this sector as early as 1930. At this time the first copies of the S32 left the works. The success of the company is, among other things, a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. The family-run company is one of the most successful manufacturers in the furniture industry worldwide and its products are characterized by outstanding quality and the chic, timeless design. The longevity of the Thonet products is a central feature of the furniture.
