Eames chairs - Only original!
Designer furniture by Ray and Charles Eames is occasionally offered for sale on the Internet at low prices. However, these dealers promise a chair that Charles Eames never actually touched and the similarities are not purely coincidental! In Europe the Vitra company holds the rights to the Eames originals.
At first glance the differences are not immediately obvious. If you take a closer look, you will see that the missing Vitra embossing already indicates that this is not the original re-edition of the manufacturer from Weil am Rhein. Further indications are the mostly unclean workmanship and the use of cheap materials, especially wood.
The original is designed for a long service life and meets the highest standards of quality and sustainability. This is reflected in the price, but also in price stability.
Vitra chair original = Eames chair original
The manufacturer Vitra trades with the replicas or "re-editions" of the classics with the permission of the designer and his heirs. The designs of the couple Charles and Ray Eames are protected by copyright in Germany until 2058, because Ray Eames died in 1988. The sale with the label Eames chairs original is therefore prohibited. By the way, this legal situation applies to all European countries except England, where designer furniture is no longer protected 25 years after it was first put on the market. This means that in Great Britain every Eames Original enjoys a different patent protection.
