"Akari 1AD Table Lamp"
The table lamp Vitra Akari 1AD - light in its purest form
The Akari 1AD table lamp is part of the Akari Light Sculptures collection by designer Isamu Noguchi. The Akari 1AD has a filigree base made of steel wire, the lampshade is made of precious shoji paper. This table lamp by Vitra is about 43 cm high, the shade has a diameter of about 26 cm. The design of the lamp was created in 1951 for Vitra and is now available as a re-edition. The originals can be recognized by the small symbol for sun and moon, which also correspond to the Japanese characters. The logo guarantees the authenticity of the lamp. Akari is the Japanese word for light, brightness and lightness.
The Vitra Akari Collection
The Vitra Akari collection comprises more than a hundred different lamps, handmade from Shoji or Washi paper (bamboo), including table lamps, floor lamps and ceiling lamps in sizes ranging from 24 to a stately 290 centimeters. Shoji paper is a paper that is both resistant and translucent, is made from wood fibers and has a high tear resistance. Thanks to the design Isamu Noguchi created for the manufacturer Vitra, each lamp is a work of art.
